Prof. Stefan Trausan-Matu, PhD is professor at the Computer Science Department of the University Politehnica of Bucharest (UPB) and a pioneer in Romania in the research of artificial intelligence, discourse analysis in conversations, e-learning, human-computer interaction, collaborative and personalized systems on the web, ethics and philosophy of artificial intelligence. Now, his research interests are at the confluence of Artificial Intelligence, Computational Linguistics, Discourse Analysis, Text Mining, e-Learning, Knowledge Construction, Social Web, Philosophy, Hermeneutics, Ethics, Religion-Science Dialogue, and Music. He introduced the Polyphonic Model and Analysis Methodology for discourse, collaboration, learning, and creativity, based on the idea that these activities have essential common points with the polyphonic music. He has authored or edited an important number of books, book chapters and peer-reviewed papers, at prestigious conferences and journals. Prof. Trausan-Matu was a Fulbright Visitor Scholar post-doc at Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA, USA in 2005 and visiting professor at Universities of Nantes (2003 and 2007), Lyon (2008), Toulouse (2009), and Grenoble (2015) in France. Prof. Trausan-Matu was invited speaker in USA, China, Germany, France, San Marino, Puerto Rico, Croatia, etc. He received the Romanian Academy Award ”Mihai Drăgănescu” in 2015. In 1976 he won the first prize at the Romanian National Programming Olympiad. He is Vice-president of the Romanian Chapter of ACM SIGCHI and full member of the Romanian Scientists Academy. He chaired international conferences (including rated A*) and participated to the program or organizing committee of many others. Prof Trausan-Matu is the Head of the Natural Language Processing in N.S.T. University Politehnica Bucharest, is a scientific researcher I at the Romanian Academy Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence, was the Deputy Director of Romanian Academy Center for Artificial Intelligence, and conducted the Expert Systems (Artificial Intelligence) Laboratory of the National Informatics Research Institute in Romania. He won and was the Director of many research projects for the Romanian part in international European Union funded research projects (FP7 LTfLL, SkyNurse, Inf3S, EUREKA IKF, FP6 LarFLaST, PEKADS, etc.), participated in others (NSF-VMT, H2020 Rage, Erasmus+ ENeASEA, Erasmus Mundus DMKM, FP7 EU-NCIT, FP7 COOPER, FP7 ERRIC, COST TOWNTOLOGY, COST MUMIA, COST Republic of Letters, COST TextLink, etc.) and coordinated many national ones. His hobbies are photography and music.
