Getting knowledge from reliability science point of view about functional modules, subassemblies and computer systems. Getting knowledge about mathematical basics of the reliability theory with immediate exemplification in computer science domain. Getting knowledge about the ways to calculate system reliability: using structural model and using Markov models. Getting knowledge about the common methods used to increase the systems reliability and availability. Getting knowledge about the common methods used to increase the electronic systems testing facilities and the maintainability. Getting knowledge about fundamental principles used in order to implement the fault tolerance in common use computer systems.

Syllabus:

  • Reliability, maintainability, availability.
  • Reliability basics.
  • Mathematical  fundamentals of the reliability theory: random variables; density of probability function and repartition function; characteristic parameters of random variables; discrete and continuous repartitions with immediate examples in computer science; repartition overlapping; event fluxes; Markov chains.
  • Systems reliability calculus based on the structural model and, also, using Markov models.
  • Some calculus examples for different types of systems.
  • Common methods used to increase systems availability.
  • Common methods for increasing systems testing facilities in order to improve maintainability and systems availability.
  • General principles of fault tolerance in computer systems.
