Computational Physics

Course Instructors: Dan-Alexandru Iordache, Florin Pop.

The course is intended to ensure the knowledge of the Control systems and Computer sciences faculty of some elements of technical interest of the Modern Physics, of the elements concerning: the physical irreversible processes, the basic characteristics of the complex physical systems, the solitary waves, and the semiconductors physics, especially.

Syllabus:

  • Elements of the Complexity and Information theories.
  • Elements of the experimental data processing.
  • Statistical testing of the experimental values distributions.
  • Measuring errors; the errors propagation.
  • Confidence domains and levels.
  • Fitting of the experimental relations parameters.
  • Study of the compatibility of the theoretical relations with the existing experimental results.
  • Numerical methods and phenomena  The gradient method, the random walk method.
  • Main types of numerical phenomena: instability, pseudo-convergence, distorsions.
  • Applications for the description of irreversible processes.
  • Transport phenomena.
  • Growth/accommodation processes in biophysics, etc. Far from equilibrium physical processes.
  • Theoretical elements concerning the numerical simulations of some physical processes generating bifurcation and, in certain conditions, chaos.
  • Theoretical elements concerning the solitary waves.
  • Acoustic solitons (Korteweg-de Vries, Boussinesq, Burgers, sine-Gordon), optical solitons (nonlinear Schrödinger).
  • Applications in the modern optical communications.
